We earn commission on some of the links on this site. This page sets out plainly how that works, what it costs you, and what we do to stop it affecting what we recommend.

The short version

If you buy something after clicking certain links on this site, we may earn a small commission from the retailer. It costs you nothing extra — the price you pay is the same whether you use our link or go to the retailer directly. Scores and recommendations are decided before any affiliate link is added to a page.

We currently earn commission through:

Amazon UK Associates — as an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases made through Amazon.co.uk links.
Awin — an affiliate network covering a number of UK retailers. [the specific list of Awin merchants we're signed up with is being finalised — this page will be updated with the confirmed list rather than a claim we can't yet stand behind].

We do not claim a partnership we don't have. If a retailer or brand isn't listed above, we are not currently earning commission from links to it.

How to spot an affiliate link

Links to retailers on this site — "Check price", "View at Amazon UK" and similar buttons, and most retailer links inside review and comparison text — are typically affiliate links. We don't hide them behind vague button text or bury the disclosure in a footer nobody reads; this page is linked from the footer of every page on the site, and from every review.

Commission rates differ. Here's how we stop that biasing us

Different retailers and different products pay different commission rates. Left unmanaged, that's a real conflict of interest — it would be easy to quietly favour whichever link pays more. We don't, and here's specifically what stops it:

Scores are set before any affiliate link is added to a page. The scoring methodruns first; monetisation is a separate, later step.
We link to the best price and availability for the reader, not the best commission for us. If a lower-commission retailer has the better price or is actually in stock, that's the link we use.
We don't accept payment for a review, a score, or a place in a list. No brand can buy a better position.
We don't accept free products in exchange for coverage. Where a review is hands-on, we've paid full retail price for the item — see the testing method pagefor what "hands-on" means on this site.

We recommend against products regularly

A meaningful share of the products we review score badly and we say so. Those pages still carry affiliate links where a link exists — we'd rather lose the commission on a bad product than soften the verdict to keep it.
